***2015 best-selling historical mystery/thriller!***
From the ancient ruins beneath Mount Vesuvius, a two-thousand-year-old document has emerged. It is the only text ever attributed to the ambitious, inquisitive, and cryptic last pharaoh of Egypt...
When her Nobel laureate husband is murdered, biologist Katrina Stone can no longer ignore the secrecy that has increasingly crept into his recent behavior. Her search for answers leads to a two-thousand-year-old medical mystery and the life of one of history's most enigmatic women. Following the trail forged by her late husband, Katrina must separate truth from legend as she chases a scientific breakthrough from ancient Italy and Egypt into a clandestine modern-day war. Her quest will reveal a legacy of greed and murder and resurrect an ancient plague into the twenty-first century.
Likened to the works of Dan Brown including Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci Code, The Vesuvius Isotope is a treasure hunt through Italy and Egypt, from the ruins of Pompeii and Herculaneum to the underground labyrinth of Raimondo di Sangro and the underwater archeological park at Baiae. More historical and archaeological thriller than science thriller, the novel investigates several non-fictional mysteries that have endured for more than two thousand years. In her quest for the cure of the ages, Katrina Stone is forced to trace the tragically misunderstood life of another strong, flawed female character--the last pharaoh of Egypt, Cleopatra VII. The Vesuvius Isotope blurs the lines between fact and fiction, medicine and magic, science and superstition, history and legend.
"Gripping. Fascinating. Entrancing. The Vesuvius Isotope is 2013's top thriller!"
-Carolyn Hart, mega-best-selling author of Escape from Paris
"Elise takes us into historic, cultural, medical, and scientific arcana likely to surprise you at every turn... in this brainier-than-Dan-Brown mystery journey."
-Dan Burstein, mega-best-selling co-author of Secrets of the Code
"A fast-paced mystery based partially on scientific possibility and partially on ancient historical conundrum, this story kept me intrigued... First-person narrative and thrilling escapades make the story an exciting escape while the subject matter makes it interesting."
-Joyce Brown, mystery author
"Katrina Stone is a smarter, sexier version of Robert Langdon. If you like a great murder mystery with a strong female lead, this is for you!"
-KK, Seattle, Washington
"This is a gem!... Being an Egyptian... I was a bit apprehensive starting it. Because whenever I read something related to either Ancient Egypt or the modern one, I get this cringe and I'm always disappointed... This book restored my faith--there's someone out there who gets it. Great work, clearly, my new favorite author."
-Kariema, Giza, Egypt
"Simply superb. I started reading this one, and abandoned the rest I had been reading along with just to finish this."
-Sakshi, Bangalore, India
“I really enjoyed this mystery. There was obviously a lot of research that went into the writing of this story and I feel as if I learned a lot, but it didn't feel as if I were being ‘taught.’ By the end, I really cared about the characters, and the pages almost couldn't turn fast enough to find out what happened. Very exciting!”
-Catherine M. Walter, author of The Harmony of Isis
“A perfect beach read with a little bit of mystery, adventure and a lot of suspense… If you enjoy stories about travel, history, libraries, archives, and especially ancient Egypt, then you will surely enjoy this.”
-Khaola, Constantine, Algeria
The Vesuvius Isotope The Katrina Stone Thrillers Book 1 edition by Kristen Elise PhD Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks
Utilizing the thriller format, Kristen Elise has given us an intriguing tale in "The Vesuvius Isotope" that is at once a meditation on what the ancient Romans and Egyptians knew about science and medicine and a gently scientific discussion of modern biotechnology and life sciences and the ongoing search for treatments and cures for pernicious cancers and other syndromes. Elise takes us into historic, cultural, medical, and scientific arcana likely to surprise you at every turn with how much the ancients knew about issues that often continue to vex us today. The wise and learned Cleopatra--not just the seductive queen--and the great libraries at Pompeii--not just the well-known historic story of the volcano that destroyed the city--figure prominently in this brainier-than-Dan-Brown mystery journey.Product details

The Vesuvius Isotope The Katrina Stone Thrillers Book 1 edition by Kristen Elise PhD Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
The book was terrible , never able to define the characters or the plot and just did not hold my interest ..
I enjoyed this book. My only problem is you need to pay real attention to what your reading or your could get lost!
Just bought the second book ..hope it's as good as the first
Very hard to follow central theme and science is incorrect. I do not plan to read the next book by his author because the writing is so hard to follow.
I was surprised at how much I liked this book. It was a great escape. History, travel--and ancient Egypt. What a great read.
The concept is unique, and filled with twists and turns. However the author loves to go off on wordy tangents which are inconsequential, or repetitive, which is annoying. If Yuri can get around this, you will emu y the book.
This novel has all the elements of a great thriller. A thoroughly engrossing blend of science, mystery, tragedy, history, despair, & hope. It is a story that will stay with me for awhile, and while I'm tempted to download & begin reading the sequel, I think I'll order the printed version and savor this one for a few days before continuing.
This was a fun read. It started slow, and the flashback recollections of the main character were a bit distracting. The book picks up in the middle, and I was sucked into finishing it. The end was satisfying, if a bit contrived. A solid beach read.
